Jocelyn Sedney is a partner with BHPK Law. She has over thirty-five years of experience litigating complex matters on behalf of individuals, small businesses, and large corporations, as well as national and international insurance companies. Jocelyn’s impressive trial record includes successfully defending insurers against bad faith claims, multi-million dollar personal injury and wrongful death suits, and construction and property loss cases. She has also obtained summary judgments in intricate disputes regarding insurance coverage and legal malpractice matters. Notably, she has also represented property owners, contractors, and installers of fire protection systems arising from some of the most devastating fire loss cases in the Commonwealth. Jocelyn has also represented similar entities in large loss property damage cases.

Jocelyn’s practice also focuses on advising and counseling insurers, individuals, and corporations on risk management, conflicts of interest, insurance policy interpretation, claims handling, and best practices. Jocelyn has acted as outside corporate litigation counsel in a variety of contexts, including wrongful death litigation, breach of contract claims, alleged asbestos exposure, general tort litigation, product liability, and mass tort litigation. She regularly appears before trial and appellate courts in Massachusetts as well as in the First Circuit Court of Appeals.

In addition, Jocelyn’s background as a mental health advocate has helped to inform her empathetic approach to plaintiff’s work. She has obtained significant results on behalf of mentally ill clients, including recovering $2.5 million after a jury trial for a woman who had been sexually assaulted by a counselor at a residential mental health treatment facility resulting in the birth of a child, as well as a large financial settlement for a client of a drug rehabilitation program following the unauthorized disclosure of private information by a staff member.

During her career, Jocelyn has served as an instructor in premises liability and lead paint liability for Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) as well as for various community groups. She is the co-author, along with fellow partner Richard Brody, of The Law of Premises Liability in Massachusetts.

Before joining BHPK at its inception in 1995, Jocelyn was a partner with a large Boston insurance defense firm, where she concentrated on the defense of claims involving lead paint and other toxic torts and product liability. Prior to that, she worked at a firm in Anchorage, Alaska, where she represented clients in bankruptcy matters, civil litigation, and employment litigation.

Jocelyn and her wife live in Quincy. They both enjoy pursuing outdoor activities, including hiking locally in the Blue Hills and beyond. In addition to her affiliations within the legal field, Jocelyn is also actively involved in her community through her neighborhood association, organizations protecting natural resources, and other civic groups.
