Maria DeLuzio is of counsel to Brody, Hardoon, Perkins and Kesten, LLP. She has tried numerous cases in District and Superior courts throughout Massachusetts, and in Land Court. She has also appeared before the Appeals Court, the Supreme Judicial Court, and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination.
Practice Areas
Ms. DeLuzio’s practice currently focuses on pre-litigation counseling of public and private employers to maintain compliance with employment laws and minimize the effects of litigation. Among other matters, Ms. DeLuzio has counseled employers about compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act, employee performance reviews, and discipline issues.
In addition to her legal practice, Ms. DeLuzio conducts workplace investigations. She has completed the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination Certified Discrimination Prevention Training Course, and is among those to whom the MCAD refers employers for training in employment law.
Ms. DeLuzio also reviews and evaluates sexual harassment policies and develops and implements training programs for clients’ staff about sexual harassment, workplace discrimination, and internal investigations. Recently, she has given presentations about sexual harassment to several different school districts, a fire department, and the managers and staff of a number of municipalities.
While at BHPK, Ms. DeLuzio has handled litigation matters involving municipal liability and employment law. Ms. DeLuzio represented over thirty municipalities throughout Massachusetts in disputes involving:

Ms. DeLuzio has also represented employers and employees in matters involving sexual harassment, age and disability discrimination.
Prior Experience
Prior to joining BHPK, Ms. DeLuzio was in private practice. During this time, Ms. DeLuzio briefed and argued Roe v. Federal Insurance Co., 587 N.E.2d 214 (SJC 1992) before the Supreme Judicial Court. Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly ranked this among the Top 100 Most Significant Cases of 1992. Ms. DeLuzio has also worked as Staff Counsel for the Massachusetts Water Resource Authority.

Ms. DeLuzio also serves as Academic Advisor to Northeastern University’s Legal Nurse Consulting program, for which she developed curriculum and teaches courses in ethics and medical records review and analysis. She also is an instructor in ethics for Northeastern’s Paralegal Certificate program.
Education
A cum laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, Ms. DeLuzio received her law degree from Northeastern University School of Law in 1988.
Professional and Community Affiliations
Ms. DeLuzio is admitted to the bar in Massachusetts, the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the First Circuit Court of Appeals. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the American Society of Training and Development. Ms. DeLuzio is a judge for Northeastern University School of Law’s Legal Practice Seminar, a brief grader for the American Bar Association National Moot Court competition, and a past board member of the Northeastern University School of Law Alumni Association. She is also a volunteer facilitator for the Massachusetts Bar Association’s “Conversations in the Law” program.
